What You Need to Know About Demo Day

You can’t begin a home renovation project until you complete the demo of your current space. As demo day quickly approaches some may start to feel nervous about what to expect, especially if this is your first time experiencing it.

In order to fully prepare your home for the construction that is about to take place, you have to be prepared for the demolition process. Whether you are doing a full remodel on a room in your home, or just giving your space a facelift, you will have to do some sort of demolition.

That could be as simple as sanding your current cabinets or taping off fixtures to prepare for fresh paint. It could also become a more complex job requiring you to completely gut your current space, including removing all of your fixtures and appliances. Here are some tips to better prepare you for demo day.

  • Clear your space. Before your construction crew can start the demolition process you want to make sure your space is clean. You will need to move all of your personal items into another room in your house to ensure nothing will get damaged along the way.
  • Properly prepare your floors. Before you start to clear out your rooms fixtures and appliances you need to make sure your floor is properly covered. The last thing you want to do is damage your floor, adding extra work and cost for you in the long run. We recommend purchasing heavy duty canvas tarps to place on the floor in the area you will be working on.
  • Make sure the electrical and water are turned off. After you power off your electrical and water you can start to remove your lighting and fans, switches, and your outlets. Before removing any faucets or plumbing features remember to properly drain the lines.
  • Time to get to work. This is the fun part! Once you have properly prepared your space for the demolition it is time to get to work. We recommend starting with the larger items then moving to other areas of your room. This all depends on what room you are working with. Whether it is a kitchen, bathroom, or living room, each step might slightly vary from one another.

Just remember to prepare your floors, clear your space, and communicate with your contractor to better prepare yourself for the demolition process.
