Outdoor Living Trends

In the summer, it is the perfect time to spend time outside. However, when you spend time outside, you want to be comfortable. As many people are feeling the same way, here are a few of the top outdoor living trends.

Following past years, sustainability is a major trend in outdoor living. No one wants to continuously buy products and furniture every year, it becomes costly, and is incredibly wasteful. By purchasing sustainable furniture, you help the environment, and often save your household money in the long run. There are many places where sustainable furniture can be found online, including Wayfair, Amazon, and Home Depot. The biggest trend in outdoor living is creating the smoothest transition from indoor to outdoor. Having your outdoor space feel like an extension of your indoor space is essential, and it can make your home more spacious and comfortable. As it is much more costly to move homes, an easy way to create more living space is to develop outdoor spaces, through decks or patios, and making the transition from inside to outside smooth.

Smart technology is also moving outdoors, with irrigation, sound systems, and automated lighting. Having smart technology in your outdoor spaces is a great way to keep your space organized, and save energy. For irrigation, smart technology can now use weather data and soil sensors to provide the optimized amount of water for the plants at any given moment, helping with their lifespan. Sound systems connected to technology can be added to people’s home apps, thus making that system much easier. When lighting can be controlled by your phone it makes life much easier, and makes the homeowner more reactive to turning the lights on and off, thus saving energy over time.

A major outdoor living trend in 2025 is to incorporate as much green landscaping as possible, and to have more gardens that grow food for families. As prices climb, growing some fruits, veggies, and herbs at home can help to alleviate some of the financial burden of the week to week grocery trips. Additionally, instead of simply planting whatever you want, there is a trend to plant more native plants into landscaping, and to make landscapes more relaxed, instead of much more formal. Gardening is also a great way to promote peoples’ well-being, which helps mental health.

Continuing on about mental health, another trend is to create spaces that pertain to relaxation and mediation. Outdoor fitness spaces are becoming a huge movement, and many people are purchasing either saunas, cold plunges, or both. Along with that desire of relaxation, there has been an increased desire for privacy in their outdoor living spaces.
