As warmer weather approaches, it is an excellent time to renovate your home! Interior design trends are shifting, and here are a few trends to keep an eye on.
Personal Storytelling
The trend of minimalism has fallen, and personal storytelling has taken its place. Homeowners have moved on, so that their homes reflect who they are, from vintage pieces, family heirlooms, and decor. As thrifting becomes a more common hobby of homeowners, homes are becoming unique and is a welcome change.
Less Open Floorplans
After the pandemic and remote work, more homeowners are interested in more closed off floorplans. While open floor plans are incredibly popular and convenient for families, closed off rooms are almost required for those who work from home, or just want a bit of privacy. Closed off rooms can quickly become cozy, often utilized as personal libraries or offices.
Natural Stone
As self-expression in homes grows, natural stone is a strong trend. While faux stonework was popular, natural stone is often of higher quality and lasts much longer. Homeowners desire more natural spaces. These natural stones are often utilized as statement stones, defining a whole room, or as a simple area of a kitchen, landing room, or living room.
Color-Drenched Room
This trend has been around for well over a year, but color drenching is still just as popular as it was. It allows for a room to be fully cohesive, from floor to ceiling, and for the decor to speak for itself. It is common in many rooms of the home, but most commonly living rooms, bathrooms, and entry ways. It also embraces the idea of personal storytelling, as homeowners will choose their personal favorite color, or a color that brings them joy. Bright or dark colors, color drenching is incredible
Earthy Colors
Natural colors will never go out of style, and 2026 is proof of this. Earthy, natural colors include greens, browns, and blues. From cool to warm tones, natural colors lend to great color schemes. Ocean-themed colors are perfect for many rooms, kitchens with green cabinetry is an incredible choice, and living rooms with light brown walls and brown furniture are all incredible choices that will remain timeless.
Checkerboard Flooring
As most trends are cyclical, checkerboard flooring coming back into trend follows the pattern, and is still a timeless option for many homes! Often seen in bathrooms or kitchens, this is also an incredible choice for entrances to homes. Checkerboard flooring has been around for millennia, dating back to Ancient Egypt, then Roman-time, then European palaces, then American homes. It is an incredible choice for homes, and the checkerboard tile isn’t always the traditional black and white patten, with the black often being replaced with greens, pinks, or blues.
